Our night at the Ladies Literary Club in Ypsilanti was absolutely wonderful! Our host Acadia put together an incredibly beautiful tea party and she left no detail out. Below are a few samples of the evening including all the beautiful (and unique to each table) tea settings. The Wormwood Queen’s hubby Ted was a wonderful master of ceremonies for the event mingling historical facts about the city and the Spiritualist movement and with a gentle slight of hand turned things over to us for a little bit about our society, where we come from and the stories behind our teas. We started with Butterfly Circus Tea and got into tales of that circus, fairies, and how Mab came to be in the most interesting green house this side of Salem. The next serving was absinthe tea and devoted to all things green fairy as Kate talked of her family’s history creating absinthe and how some of the myths attributed to the drink came to be. The final tea was our new blend created for the Motor City Steam con –a nice vanilla and rum mix. Tea goers sipped tea with the loose tea inside as Kate gave them a lesson in tea leaf reading. A few ghosts popped in for a visit; one of which got a tad surly at times and really liked to stand behind people. We were also pleased that through our gift box raffle we were able to raise additional funds for Acadia’s The Blushing Violet Project. It was a wonderful night and we can’t wait for the next one!
As the title implies, it was quite a wonderful night. Our host Acadia put together a beautiful, beautiful tea party! And so much happened throughout the evening. We’re relaxing in out hotel room having a glass of wine to unwind (Witch’s Brew!) and relax. We’ll have a full event recap as soon as we get back home. Thank you Acadia and our tea ladies for a wonderful night!

We closed out the convention with a wonderful turn out for our Wormwood Queen’s Tea & Tasseomancy panel where she taught convention goers how to read tea leaves. After that her gentleman served as master of ceremonies for tea dueling. Yes! Tea dueling! It’s a thing. Bella was our littlest and most adorable tea shoppe-keeper. And let us not forget our mischievously mustached table monkeys who helped out.
Here are a few more snapshots of our day at the Motor City Steam Con in Livonia Michigan. Pictured here our vending table and our Wormwood Queen with her gent Ted and their wee one Bella. Our day was busy! Much Orange Moon Tea was served in the tea room!
Our first day at the Motor City Steam Con was busy and found us quickly trying to find our convention legs. While our writer lady Miss Blue has been doing steampunk conventions since 2010, this is actually the very first steampunk event for the Orange Moon Tea Society. We were tapped to provide teas and tea leaf readings for the con’s Occult Tea event. Pictured here is a glimpse of the beautiful spread for the late tea and our Wormwood Queen giving the room a reading. Last but certainly cutest, her imps Bella and Gabe ready for world adventure.
Do you like spirit boards? Our society is a little mixed on the subject. Some of the ladies think they make lovely Halloween decorations. However, there was the incident with Lurva LaRue who accidentally nudged the planchette of one and ended up in a screaming match with someone from beyond the veil. The argument? She was not prepared to take on the responsibility of being a ghostly telegraph message deliverer when she had a hard enough time keeping up correspondence with her own kids! These designs are called functional art and include our O.M.T.S. logo and our wonderful tea bats. These items will be for sale at our sister shoppe The Attic Shoppe’s table.
We are pleased to announce that The Orange Moon Tea Society will be hosting the tea room at the Motor City Steam Con just outside of Detroit MI this coming July. You’ll be able to visit our tea room and sample our many wonderful tea flavors and maybe even get a tea leaf reading by our own Wormwood Queen. We’ll also be hosting a few special events like Occult Tea where you can take in the full ritual of Absinthe Tea and learn a bit about Victorian Spiritualism. Our Snapdragon Tea chronicler Bethalynne will also be a guest artist at the event. The convention takes place the weekend of July 22 thru 24. You can find more information about venue, hotel reservations and the like by visiting the convention’s site at: MotorCitySteamCon.com — More info to come!
Spring has sprung! And we are so very thankful. The past year here at Orange Moon Downs has been interesting to say the least. Our Tea Society Members have weathered many challenges and we are ready for the good, new beginnings that come with the spring season. Our Society Pages have been updated and we are working to plan even more fun events. New teas are in the works and the creative juices are beginning to flow. Be sure to stay tuned!

We brought out our first tea samples to the International Steampunk Symposium this past weekend -this was our tea station. We had 2 to 4 (depending on your preferred strength of tea) cup sampler tins for purchase. We brought four flavor samples and our larger tins so everyone could get a good look and smell of the loose tea before picking out a sample. I’m happy to report the samples were scooped up before the end of the convention. The front runner was our Snapdragon Tea with the new Batnip Tea a close second. Orange Moon and the Butterfly Circus were close on the other’s heels giving them the tea eye. Sadly we had no absinthe tea for the convention because we, not so sadly, found our samples sold before they got a chance to get there.
This was a wonderful real time experience to see how the teas would be received. We’re delighted it went so well. So now we’re ready to get some more packaging done, get our product shots in order and begin selling them online. We’re also going to be taking up a few offers to bring our tea society to events for summer. And! We’ve got some wonderful donated items to add to our IndieGoGo campaign!
While sadly our Wormwood Queen is still on the mend (damn those skate rink gremlin! *shaky fist*) Miss Blue has packed up the tea wagon and will be representing the Orange Moon Tea Society at The Attic Shoppe’s table in the convention’s vending hall. We have a quaint little display that features Tea Bat Lenormand decks, postcards, prints, and our very first available samples of four of our teas for purchase! You will find our new Batnip Tea, Orange Moon Tea, Snapdragon Tea, and Butterfly Circus Tea all represented. We’ll have cute little sample tins for nabbing and larger tins with samples to smell and look upon our rather attractive teas. If you happen to be attending, please stop by and say hello! And get your first sample of the Orange Moon Society Tea! For more convention information follow this link.
May we introduce to you the very fine gentlebats who are apart of our sponsor a tea bat program? That’s right! You can help out our little tea shop by sponsoring one of our eight tea bats. Not only are you helping our business get the little boost small businesses need in the start of things, you’ll also get a swanky tea bat sponsor pack full of all kinds of lovely things! More information can be found here.
Like many before us, our society has decided to turn our attentions towards crowd-funding to give our small business start-up a bit of a boost up. Setting aside the persona for a moment, we are very hard working ladies who put a lot of love & energy into everything we do. The Orange Moon Tea Society is a precious babe to us a long time in the making. We don’t just want to see her get by, we want to see her succeed!
Right now all of our small business start-up is coming out of whatever nooks and crannies we can find the extra penny to lend to it. We’re hoping by doing a smaller, more localized IGG campaign we can get a little extra to help with our start-up expenses and give our teas a little promotional kick-in-the-pants. We’ve decided to offer our Tea Bat Lenormand deck and our cute (and a little cheeky) Sponsor a Tea Bat program. We’ve kept our perks to a simple seven so we don’t get too overwhelmed by the campaign while we’re busy working to get our teas & tea samplers packaged and ready for our shop. As of today this campaign is live and will be taking backers until mid-May.
What are we asking of you? While we’d love for you to find something among our perks that temps your change purse, we really could use a good bit of word-of-mouth promotion. If you’re on Twitter -give us a follow and retweet our tweets. The same for Facebook and Tumblr. If you have a blog and would like to do a little write up on us, wonderful! Send a note to orangemoontrade at gmail.com and we’ll give you any info you’d like. If you’d like to check our our Tea Bats campaign visit this link for all the info. And please -wish us luck!
As noted in this earlier post, our own Wormwood Queen is off to ConVocation this weekend. This is a new event exploring a wide range of mystical paths that offers guest speakers, an art show and a vendors room of unique items. Our absinthe gal will be holding a tea salon at high noon this coming Sunday at the event. She will be handing out samplers of our very first (and our signature) Orange Moon Tea! If you’re planning to attend the event please make sure to visit her tea panel and let her better acquaint you with our tea society!
Wormwood Queen is a founding member of the Orange Moon Tea Society and heir to the secret recipe for Mother Henriot’s Elixir, (otherwise known as Absinthe Tea). She was taught the magical art of tea leaf reading by a member of the Royal Court of Fae in exchange for her Illustrious work with the Urban Fairy Rescue League. In an effort to preserve this glorious tradition, she has chosen to pass on her knowledge to those who will join her for this unprecedented tea. This is an opportunity not to be missed!
Learn more by visiting ConVocation online, February 19th-22nd, 2015, for more details and join our Wormwood Queen Sunday for tea!
